Helen Woods

Helen Woods was born in 1968 in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. She is mostly a self taught artist who has always been creative. She has taken numerous courses over the years from ceramics to wire sculpture however when she discovered Encaustic painting, she was hooked.

My happy place

Encaustic painting

The molten, pigmented wax, mixed with resin from a damar tree is fused onto boards in layers using heat (mostly blow torch) to create abstract paintings. She does this in a stable which has been converted into a studio and thankfully all hay removed!
Now living in rural Co. Wexford between the Wicklow hills and the beaches she is highly influenced by her surroundings. Her paintings encapture the spirit and light of the Irish landscape.
